Connect to People and Place

We love to help visitors connect more deeply with people and the place that they’re visiting. Whether you’re a guest at Casa Awänímä or simply passing through Tzununá, you are invited to explore this beautiful land and culture through the unique activities we offer.

Daily Yoga

Start your morning with an open yoga practice on the deck, with volcano views and birdsong as the soundtrack. Suitable for all levels — just show up and move. (Mats are available)

8:00am - 9:00am Mondays - Saturdays

Q100 per person

Reservation required!

Ceremonial Tüj

Step into the tüj — the ancestral Mayan sweat lodge — for a guided limpieza that uses heat, medicinal plants, and prayer to cleanse the body and quiet the mind. This is ceremony, not spa: a tradition that the people in Tzununá have been tending for generations.

Saturdays at 5:00pm (2-3 hours)

Q325 per person*

Guided by Cheyo Perez in Spanish

*All profits are put into a fund that is used for the benefits of the elders in the community. Thank you for contributing to the preservation of the original culture of Tzununá.

Bring Corn to Local Elders

Corn is sacred here — the very foundation of Mayan cosmology and daily life. Join us in bringing offerings of corn to the elders of Tzununá, a simple and profound gesture of reciprocity that connects you to the heart of this community.

Q150 per person (pays for corn for 3 elders; donations accepted)

Cacao Circle

Join Cheyo for a circle of gratitude for the gift of cacao and to hear important words and messages shared from the heart. It’s a great opportunity to commune with the sacred medicine of cacao and also connect with a local authority to learn about the wisdom and perspective he’s gained from learning and growing up in Tzununá.

Saturdays, 10:00am

Weaver Wednesdays

Local Kaqchikel women come to Casa Awänímä to weave on traditional backstrap looms, keeping alive a textile tradition that has been passed down for generations in this region. Guests are welcome to watch, chat with the ladies, and purchase handmade pieces directly from the artisans — a meaningful way to support the women and the living craft they carry. No reservation required, just show up!

Wednesdays, 10am-12pm
